LIST 34 - BURIALS - ST JOHNS LAUNCESTON

The  first  burial  was performed on the 9th  of  November  1819. During
the  remainder  of  the  decade  there  were  26  burials performed
at St Johns.

The information recorded for each burial is as follows:
               burial date
               Christian name
               family name
               age
civil status at time of death
               year and ship of arrival
               comments
               reference number

The burials are listed in chronological order.

The  Rev.  Knopwood visited the Launcestion/Port  Dalrymple  area twice,
in 1811 and 1814, and whilst he performed  many  baptisms and  marriages
he apparently performed no burials.  It  was  not until  the Rev. John
Youl arrived in November 1819  that  regular burials are recorded.

It is sadly the case that obviously many deaths and burials which
occurred in the Launceston/Port Dalrymple area prior to 1819 went
unrecorded.

Information in the register not recorded here is the name of  the
officiating minister.

For  the colonial born their year of birth and parents names  are
recorded in the ship of arrival column.

The  reference  numbers are sequential with those  of  St  Davids Hobart
for some reason starting with 364 & 365 in 1819 but  then jump to 444
in 1820 and run until 467 at the end of the decade.

To  locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical  search on
the name would be made on List 29 using code "SJL" from  which the
date  of  burial  would be  retrieved,  secondly  using  the appropriate
date, the burial would then be located on this list.
