MARRIAGES - WESLEYAN CHAPELS
This list records six Wesleyan chapels all of which were
established during the decade 1831 to 1840 and all of which
recorded less than fifty marriages in their registers. Combined
these chapels totalled 24 marriages. Unfortunately only the Sydney
chapel parish register has been located at this time and it is not
complete.
The information recorded for each marriage is as follows:
date
groom
family name
Christian name
year and ship of arrival
civil status at time of marriage
age at marriage
parish
bride

The six chapels listed by date of establishment are:
1834:Wesleyan Chapel Moreton Bay {MBWM}
1837:Wesleyan Chapel Sydney {SYDW}
1837:Wesleyan Chapel Parramatta {PARW}
1840:Wesleyan Chapel Bathurst {BATW}
1840:Wesleyan Chapel Portland Head {P-HW}
1840:Wesleyan Chapel Windsor {WINW}
The marriages within each chapel are listed in chronological order.
Of the grooms, eight have been identified and for the brides ten. Five
marriages had at lease one partner who was a serving convict and
following the practice in this work it is assumed that the consent
of the Governor was required.
In the abscence of access to the parish registers the New South Wales
State Archive reference numbers have been retained.
To locate an entry on this list; firstly an alphabetical search on
the name would be made on Lists 3 or 4 then using the chapel code
listed in the table above the date of marriage would be retrieved,
secondly using the appropriate date, the marriage would be located
on this list.
