David Pope - SCARBOROUGH

Born in England circa 1753--Died in the Colony 1788.

 

David Pope, sentenced at Southwark, Surrey, on 16 February 1785 to seven years transportation for theft of a quantity of gutter lead from stables,

he was 32 when ordered to the Censor hulk on 24 October. 

 

On 27 February 1787 he was embarked on Scarborough after being sent to Portsmouth by wagon.

 

He was buried at Sydney cove on 5th June 1788.

David was part of the largest migration in the world when he was banished to another country.

 

He had found a place in history far away from his homeland;

David may have sensed his life was ending.

 

Yes, he died 5 months later in his new land.

 

May David Pope rest in peace?
